About Shayna Hobbs

I have an old cassette tape of the moment I was born. You can hear me letting out my first cries and then my father starts playing his guitar quietly, and singing a song he wrote for me, in the background. Within a matter of seconds my crying slows down, until I’m cooing gently and then all is silent and still. The very first sound I heard out of the womb, was music. I swallowed it whole with my first breath. Music is woven in my spirit and dances in my blood. I’ve always wanted to be like my dad who is a recording artist and musician, and just like him I want to create music that heals and brings hope. As a Native American woman, I want to bring awareness and representation to the music industry as my father has done. I have recently healed many wounds and overcome many fears that have kept me from pursuing music. I used to believe a lot of lies but now I’m being set free by beleiveing a lot of truth. My family and I have walked through losing a business, faced near homelessness, were on food stamps, lost my 29 year old brother who suffered from mental illness and was an incredible musician, and so many other trials, but through it all I have grown, I have learned, I am stronger. Music is my healer. I sit with the piano when I’m trying to cope with difficulties or make sense of things. I write lyrics when I’m inspired or needing to process. Music is my comfort. It is my joy. It’s how I communicate. And I’ve kept it hidden for a long time, thinking that it was selfish, crazy, or foolish for me to pursue it. I have learned the importance of self love, self care and finally I’m choosing me first! As a mother of two, it’s been the best way to show my children that they need to love themselves. As I have made the leap to pursue music, I realize it’s never too late and you’re never too old to follow your dream. It’s the most fulfilling and beautiful feeling when I wake up each day and get to do music. It’s like Christmas everyday. And as my children see me choosing what I love, it gives them permission to do the same. I’m ready to get my music out there, and I think the world is ready now to hear my voice. It’s time for hope and healing, positivity and all the love. ❤️
