About Sofía Campoamor

Born in Washington, DC, Sofía Campoamor first started writing songs to make school projects more fun. This lighthearted approach to academics led her to study music at Yale University, where she composed everything from a cappella arrangements to podcast theme songs, and performed around the world as the first woman member of the Whiffenpoofs. Campoamor now writes, records, and performs original indie folk in Brooklyn, and sings as a cantor and Soprano II with the Oratory Choir of St. Boniface. Her debut album "if you knew, i couldn't tell" blends dreamy acoustic soundscapes with biting vulnerability in tales of love, longing, and friendship.

Sofía's Experience

I’m a prolific songwriter and eager collaborator. My Tiktok songwriting project #wordlesong was viewed 1.8 million times, and I recently designed and completed a 36 songs in 36 days project “to fall in love with anyone…” performed as a solo show at The Bowery Electric. I wrote and self-released my 2022 debut album, “if you knew, i couldn’t tell,” produced in collaboration with Chris Peters and Oren Levin. I worked with Daniel Rudin to produce my 2021 EP “quarterlife,” and 2022 single “ULCER (Don’t Trust the Dawn), and I wrote and produced my first EP, “Parts Apart.” In 2021, I performed 5 full-length sets in NYC and opened for Hellogoodbye at Space Ballroom in Hamden, CT. In 2022, I performed 14 full-length sets in NYC, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Needham, Massachusetts, and was a featured performer at Gaia Music Collective house shows. I perform solo (guitar/vocal), trio, and with a full band. In April 2023, I opened for MALINDA at her album release show at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. My songs have also been performed and recorded by the Yale Whiffenpoofs (“Dragonfish”) and Mixed Company of Yale (“Asking for a Friend”). My art song “Dust” was performed by the Albatross Duo at the Beinecke Rare Book Library in the fall of 2018. In spring 2018, I collaborated with composer Caroline Shaw to compose etudes based on material from “Partita for 8 Voices” that allowed audience members to interact musically with a Sol LeWitt exhibit at the Yale University Art Gallery (Drawing a Thousand Melodies). I performed my 90-minute senior thesis in composition and songwriting to a livestream audience of hundreds in April 2020, alternating between live performances from my basement and reimagined covers of my songs by 19 other artists.
