About Barbara Sealy

Barbara Sealy has over 25 years of experience in the entertainment, non-profit and corporate industries. Educated in London, England, she moved to Los Angeles in her early 20’s, and has held management positions with organizations including the Walt Disney Company, Sony Music, and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (Grammy Awards)- working directly for then President of NARAS Michael Greene. After NARAS, she was the Founding Director of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, West Coast, (it started in her house as a subsidiary of the HQ in DC). Sealy was instrumental in the creation and implementation of Monk’s West Coast music education programs. She co-created and managed a scholarship fund for inner-city musicians, raising over half a million dollars for students to study music across the United States and abroad, and, with her business partner, initiated a two million dollar arts, education and performance partnership between the Monk Institute and the Los Angeles Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Music Center of Los Angeles). They also created Jazz Sports L.A. in partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), a music education program that has raised (and is still raising) millions of dollars for middle and high school students to attend music and production colleges/universities throughout the U.S. Sealy founded SB Music Management (SBMM) in 2005 with her first artists, The West Coast Get Down (Miles Mosley, Tony Austin, Kamasi Washington, Cameron Graves, Ryan Porter, Thundercat, Terrace Martin and more are part of the collective). Having worked with all of these talented musicians since they were in high school, they needed someone to shepherd their careers when they graduated various music schools. Most have subsequently signed major label deals, have all toured worldwide, and have won numerous awards. SBMM and its’ publishing arm, Taming Bear Publishing (TBP) provides a range of services to artists including Management of some of the most talented musicians in both the United States and the UK. The company represents and has taken professional musicians, songwriters, composers, Producers, and mixers/engineers from development to both indie and major labels (including Sony, Universal Music Group, Alpha Pup and Concord Records; and booking agency signings (including United Talent Agency, Paradigm and Arrival Artists), leading to multi year label contracts, worldwide tours, licensing deals, and endorsements.
