About Sinem Saniye
Saniyé (pronounced like "Sanye") is a multi award-winning songwriter and singer from New York City, recently back from attending the 2020 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles! Her songs have been produced by Grammy-nominated and winning producers, and have played on Delta Airlines, MTV Europe, Los Angeles public transportation hubs, Staples Center LA, at NY Fashion Week, in 2,500 chains stores and hotels across America, (including retailers Gap, Cache, Banana Republic, Kohl’s, Williams Sonoma, and more), on a compilation CD titled “Songs of Love for Japan CD” (raised funds for Japan earthquake alongside notable female artists such as Tori Amos, Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor, Lady Gaga, and Ani Difranco.) Some of her most notable awards include the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, and the Lennon Award, started by Yoko Ono herself. After the completion of her debut album, Saniyé went on a nationwide U.S. tour in support of her debut album (a 30-city solo feat spanning the entire US and parts of Canada for 3 months). She officially ended her tour with a homecoming show, opening for Grammy-winning artist Lisa Loeb at City Winery in New York City. Other notable concerts include her sold-out headlining show at Joe's Pub.
When Saniyé is not performing, she is writing songs for other artists, commercials, and for video games. “It’s You That I’ll Miss This Christmas,” sung by YouTube sensation Alex G, was a hit on Disney Radio and ABC Family TV, followed by Alex's album charting in the top 20 on iTunes America. She also runs her own company for female artists, 6/8 Music, running many events and showcases that shine a light on talented up-and-coming female (and non-binary) artists. Additional endeavors include running workshops for songwriting, and teaching Pop Music and Recording Engineering at the School of The New York Times as a guest artist and educator. Her philanthropic efforts include partnering with The Turkish Philanthropy Fund and The American Turkish Society in providing and supporting girls' education in rural and underdeveloped areas in her homeland of Turkey.
Saniyé has been featured in many notable magazines and papers including Delta Airlines Magazine, Time OUT NY, Global Rhythm Magazine, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Times, LA Examiner, The Idaho Tribune, DC IST and television programs across the US such as Fuse TV, Indi Music TV, Music Mix USA, Swept Away TV, The Rhythms of NY, The Director’s Chair, and Metro Unplugged (a program that aired to over 100,000 commuters on the Los Angeles city bus systems’ TV screens). She has also appeared in nearly every major news outlet in Turkey, on national overseas television including CNN, Fox TV Turkiye, TRT-INT (airs to all of Europe,) Flash TV, ATV, NTV and MTV.
In 2020, Saniye is releasing brand new music. In addition to creating music for herself and other outlets, she's been invited to be a guest speaker and educator on Pop Music and the Music Industry at the School of the New York Times Summer program in New York.
Sinem Varoglu would be an excellent addition to the Recording Academy through her advocacy and support for music creators of all kinds. She's also the company CEO and founder of 6/8 Music, a platform that shines a light on indie female artists in providing a space to nurture young women in the industry. She's passionate about contributing to the process of ensuring diversity and inclusion as a Recording Academy Member.
