About Maddie Harmon

Maddie Harmon is a mixer and recording engineer based in Nashville, Tennessee. While in high school, Maddie’s passion for music led her to begin engineering by volunteering at a student-led recording studio program, Darkroom Records. Her love for being in the studio earned her a partial scholarship to attend the Honors College at Belmont University, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Audio Engineering Technology and her self-created Individualized Major, Multimedia Production. During the 2020 pandemic, Maddie began assisting producer and recording/mixing engineer Mills Logan. While working with Logan, she also assistant engineered for Megadeth’s 2022 album, Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!, at the band’s private studio in Franklin, Tennessee. Additionally, she engineered several other projects, including episodes of Fender Amplification’s YouTube miniseries, "Plugged In," and songs from the soundtrack of the major motion picture The Ice Road. Having learned the basics of recording and the ins and outs of mixing music in Dolby Atmos from Logan, Maddie accepted a job offer from Universal Music Group and began working at East Iris Studios. During her time at East Iris Studios, she assisted on many sessions and remixed the multitracks for over 350 UMG songs to match their original stereo masters. A few months later, Maddie became approved as an Atmos mixer for Universal Music Group, where she went on to Atmos mix frontline and catalog releases (Morgan Wallen, Rihanna, Rod Stewart, etc). While at East Iris Studios, Maddie met producer and mixer Ryan Hewitt, with whom she began working. After helping complete the installation of the two-computer Dolby Atmos system at Hewitt’s studio, Stratmosphere Studios, the two Atmos mixed over a hundred songs together. Their projects include albums such as Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, Kesha's Gag Order, Stephen Sanchez’s Angel Face, Briston Maroney’s Ultrapure, and many others. In addition to her freelance work, the pair worked on several other recording and mixing projects, such as the recording, stereo mixing, and Atmos mixing of Cody Jinks’ Change The Game, Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, several Dexter and the Moonrock’s 2024 singles, and others. Maddie’s recent work includes engineering and mixing tracks from Maggie Antone’s upcoming full-length project, engineering all of mxmtoon’s upcoming album, and continuing to mix various projects in Atmos. Also, she has shared her knowledge of and love for all things audio at several recent industry events, including a Sony-hosted panel at NAMM 2024, EngineEars and Universal Music Group’s MixHer 2024, Mix and Pro Sound News’ Immersive Music Production 2024, and a Women’s Audio Mission panel at Music Biz 2024. Currently, Maddie is excited to be engineering and mixing the music for Xan Gabriel’s new art exhibition, dear diary, a multi-sensory presentation that allows the audience to experience true-to-life storytelling through an analog-tracked album enhanced by Dolby Atmos. Maddie is also a member of Cool Girl Studio, a collective of women who come together to track to analog tape. Maddie is dedicated to continual growth in her field and is always seeking new opportunities to apply her engineering, stereo mixing, and Atmos skills to an array of musical projects with other passionate creatives.

Maddie's Experience

Hey, I’m Maddie! I’m a freelance engineer who works in both the tracking and mixing domains. Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate to work on a way array of projects, from tracking to stereo mixing to immersive mixing. My specialty area is Dolby Atmos—I’ve mixed over 400 tracks in the format so far. I came up at Universal Music Group’s East Iris Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, where I started out by assisting on tracking sessions and mixing the raw multitracks from previously released material into stems that match with their mastered stereo counterparts. I’ve now graduated into being one of the mixers responsible for making these stems (and sometimes still multitracks!) into Atmos mixes. Also at East Iris, I met and started working with producer/engineer/mixer Ryan Hewitt, helping him with Atmos projects, stereo mixes, and coming with him on tracking sessions. After a little over a year of working together, I’m now currently fully freelance, available for all of your engineering needs, whether that be getting something recorded in the studio or mixed in stereo or immersive formats. I love all kinds of music and all types of projects, but my personal favorites have been working with people who are the most passionate about what they’re doing; I love the whole process of working with a group of artists to help them hash out what’s in their head, all the way from pre-pro to delivering the mix to the mastering engineer. Feel free to reach out if you need help with a project or if you just want to connect over coffee!
