About Jemma Freese

freese trio are a heavy triphop dark jazz band whose compositions explore inner demons and truths using twisted layered lyrics, bending vocals and eerie harmony which come together to create a dark beauty. They take the audience on a journey of self reflection unmasking on a journey to truth down a rabbit hole into a tunnel and back out into the light, holding them in a mesmerising trance which enables them to release suppressed emotions. freese trio recently performed at Manchester jazz festival, Marsden jazz festival, have supported Yazmin Lacy and Szun Waves (with the saxophonist from Portico Quartet) and received a place on the Manchester jazz festival hothouse scheme.

Jemma's Experience

I have toured the UK with freese trio performing in Bristol (Rough Trade Records), Leeds (Wharf Chambers, Lending Room, Salemango Festival, Headrow House, LS6, Hyde Park Book Club), Manchester (Manchester Jazz Festival and Matt and Phreds), York (The Basement), Marsden (Marsden Jazz Festival) and Huddersfield (Small Seeds and Northern Quarter). I compose all the music (including melody and lyrics) for this project and co-write the drum parts with the drummer and the bass lines with the bassist, I also co-write with other vocalists and instrumentalists in other projects (J Frisco, DOMI, JOULE and Eva Eik) and help with top lines for Dominika in DOMI and Eva in Eva Eik. I’ve recorded 10 singles (6 with JOULE and 4 with DOMI), 2 albums (1 with J Frisco and 1 with freese trio) and 1 EP with freese trio, and I am the process of recording a second album with J Frisco and a second album with freese trio.
