About Eva Eik Cottescu Vigsteinsdottir Vendelsen

I am a 23 year old Icelandic/Romanian artist and MA student in Performance and Songwriting at Leeds College of Music from Oslo, Norway. I just finished my BA (Hons) at LCoM in Pop and Jazz vocal performance, and I have also just a few months ago put together a band that I absolutely adore. I have been writing songs for as long as I know, as a way of expressing myself and saying things I otherwise felt I could not say. I also write because I believe art is a way of waking up the world and making it a better place. I have written music in a lot of genres, but I have now, for my current artist project (Eva Eik) committed to writing electronic pop songs with hip hop inspired beats. I am however open to developing my sound as I go along. I have a couple og gigs lined up in the new year and I am extremely excited to finally play my music live. I have always felt shy about sharing my music, but I have finally decided that I am done waiting for external approval and I am going for it! This is an exciting time in other words. I have also been doing top lining for awhile and worked with different songwriters and producers, helping them with their music by contributing with my musical ideas. I spend most of my social media time on Instagram, where I am trying to be a mix of approachable and "girl next door", showing both my face when it is covered in makeup, but also when I am not wearing any makeup and being silly, because I believe we live in an over filtered world. I want to be someone women can look at and relate to, both in how I look when I wake up with bags under my eyes, but also that I sometimes get a bit blue and that that is completely normal. This is something I want to reflect in my music as well, and I do this through the lyrics I write. Being a woman in the music industry, as well as a woman who was studying Jazz at the "Leeds College of Men" (Leeds College of Music), I often felt like I was a bit invisible, and that I had to fight to be taken seriously and get my ideas heard. This is one of the main reasons why I want to be a part of any movement which supports women in the music industry.

Eva Eik's Experience

Beneath The Surface – I co wrote and produced this track with Frankie Harper, and I am also top lining it. I came up with the chords, and it was my idea to sample vocals to use as layering. We did the rest together. Secret On My Lips – I wrote this song by myself, then having my synth playing re harmonise it and she also added a bit to the chorus. I co produced it with my other synth player. This is however just a demo, and it will be finished by the end of Jan 2019. Halo Cover on Instagram – I re arranged and produced the song on logic and recorded the vocals myself and also filmed it by myself. Misty – Mist Jazz Duo I am singing this song with my function jazz duo called Mist which consists of me on vocals and Lewis Downs on guitar. Long Gone – Benjamin Hidas feat. Eva Eik I wrote the lyrics to the song. Benjamin had already written the topline and produced it, so all I did was write the lyrics and put down the vocal. I have been singing, co writing and top lining for a few years now, and this is what I am most familiar with doing. I write both on Logic and by the piano. I have been writing both pop and jazz songs, as well as featuring on underground house tracks yet to be released. I studied both pop and jazz and songwriting, so I have used this in my bands at college, and I am currently in a jazz duo where I use my jazz improvisation skills and a different vocal technique. In my own artist project band (Eva Eik) I do some base level production and arranging, I do most of the songwriting and I also perform with them.
