Mwango “MK” Kasote’s Biography By Alexzenia Davis Mwango "MK" Kasote knows music. As Operations Director for powerhouse hip-hop label Dreamville Records—founded by rap superstar, J. Cole—MK oversees all label operations, including: distribution, finance and human resources. She played a major role in the launch of the 2019 inaugural Dreamville Festival which pulled in an unprecedented 40,000 guests and she contributed to the release of the Grammy-nominated compilation, Revenge of the Dreamers III. She was featured alongside her team in a 2019 Forbes article, which highlighted the company’s success. As a Zambian-native, who was raised in Queens, NY, MK desires to bridge her passion for entertainment with her purpose: Africa. Through her work and her story, she hopes to empower her community to vigorously pursue their dreams. MK began her career as an intern in 2008, splitting her time between several companies over the years, including: Clear Channel/iHeartMedia, Verity Records and JIVE. However, her breakthrough position came when she was invited to intern for ByStorm Entertainment (RCA Records), a label owned by the regaled hip-hop executive, Mark Pitts (Usher/Chris Brown). MK credits Pitts for his ability to help urban talent reach crossover success; and she was able to experience this first-hand with the rise of artists like singer, Miguel, and then-newcomer, J-Cole. While at ByStorm, MK eventually secured a full-time position. She was placed in charge of J-Cole’s day-to-day (Management) activities and quickly forged a bond with the rapper and his team. MK remained with ByStorm until 2018, when a trip home to Zambia inspired her to want to push to new heights. Later that year, she joined Dreamville. As one of the few immigrant women to occupy space within the industry, MK takes pride in her position and notes that she has never felt more at home. She describes herself as a “Constant Creative” who desires to create experiences with the people she loves for the fans who are eager to consume. Eventually, she hopes to penetrate other facets of the entertainment industry, including film and sports.
