About Charly Smith

Hi I’m Charly Smith, a 27-year-old Aussie musician (currently based in Canada) and Graduate from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Country Music. Like most, I started playing/performing music at a young age. Piano is the first instrument I learned and along the way picked up guitar having lessons that focused more on Rock/Charts/Pop/Indie music. While at Uni I dove into the worlds of Bluegrass, Old-Time, Celtic, and Country music. During my final semester, I directed my own band which was a Celtic Trio called "Single Pringlez" (scroll for more details below). I have performed a variety of different gigs over the years crossing many genres (Celtic, Pop, Rock, Country, Bluegrass etc) in Bars and Venues around Downtown JC to Charity Events, Weddings, Galas and the Annual Bluegrass Half Marathon. My goal is to be a touring musician in a band playing guitar/keys and to progress into more of a Musical Director/Band Leader role. Even though I'm from Australia I've grown up living in Macau, UK, and America visiting various other countries along the way, so adapting to new situations/cultures has become second nature.

Charly's Experience

Throughout my time at University I was given the chance to perform on many small stages and venues throughout the East Tennessee area. Downtown Johnson City is where I regularly gigged in Bluegrass, Country, and Celtic bands over my 4 years there. I’ve also played multiple charity events, functions, farmers markets, care homes, and even the annual Bluegrass Half Marathon. Prior to university I performed any chance I got playing a wide variety of genres from rock, pop, indie rock, country, etc. mostly in local venues/bars and small theatres. As my University life has come to an end I’m looking to kick start my professional career in the industry as a musician.
