About Cass Mae

Having been born blind German artist CassMae used her feet for orientation. When she started “drumming” them too hard on the ground, she switched to playing the African drum. When she experienced bullying, she wrote her intimate song “Bullies” to cope with her situation and instantly won the national songwriting contest of the Berliner Festspiele in 2015. CassMae started to appear on radio and in several TV productions, she successfully joined the TV show “Dein Song” for young composers, received a scholarship for the Summer Performance Program at the Berklee College of Music in Boston where she was among the 5-week-winners of the Songwriter´s showcase with her original “The way I am”. Returning from the US she was asked to compose and sing the title song “The day I became strong” for the “Prix Jeunesse International 2018” a festival and competition for 500 children-/youth broadcasting companies. 16-year old CassMae returned to drumming, started learning “Tabla” and experimenting with new, more oriental sounds and languages.  Ever since she´s also been invited to play at Indian concerts and yoga retreats, has become part of the Tabla Ensemble of the Anubhab Academy of Cologne. CassMae got contracted by Kick The Flame Publishing in Leipzig and released her debut album “Past Life” with producer GOLOW (Horst Wegener Band, Flo Mega, Samy Deluxe, Oonagh, Cupidon) who met her in Berlin in 2015. CassMae performed at bigger events, along artists like Culcha Candela, Leslie Clio, Jochen Distelmeyer, Tan Caglar, Allie Neumann. Vinx, her former Berklee professor, has become her mentor and made her a part of the Soul Kitchen, so she got to share stages with international artists such as Maritri Garrett, Taylor Moore, Heston Francis, Tom Bowman, Cleveland, Billy Kent, Ozara Ode, Stewart Sukuma and many more, playing her first own concerts in France. In 2021 CassMae was elected „Beste Band im Westen“ for newcomers on public German radio WDR2 POP! The strong influence of Indian fusion in interaction with modern house, RnB or afro beats and adding several Indian languages in the lyrics ensure a special and dynamic sound world, which is rarely present in modern pop music. She released her EP “Number 14” and won the pop category of the UK Songwriting Contest. In 2022 she returned to TV for a „Dein Song Christmas show“ performing her German anti-war song „Gib mir Frieden“ with Rolando Villazón and was asked to write a song for the TV format „Pur+“ with German artists and producers Mieze, Martin Haas and Eric Meyer. Just recently she also co-wrote and performed a German inclusion song for „The Federal Government Commissioner for Matters relating to Persons with Disabilities“ of the German parliament. CassMae’s stresses topics such as personal self-determination, inclusion and diversity to not only make a musical but also a political statement.

I took percussion and piano lessons from a very early stage, joined a gospel choir and all musical ensembles at school. When I was 11 I started to get voice/songwriting coaching. I received special workshops when winning awards, completed Berklee‘s 5 week including a special assistive technology program. I‘m currently studying Jazz/pop majoring in Singer-Songwriting at the HFMT Cologne (university).
