I’m a long standing member of Beyoncé’s band & a musical contributor to 12 world tours, 23 grammy affiliated projects & multiple platinum records with everyone from Roy Hargrove to Karol G, Lupe Fiasco, Alejandro Sanz & more. I love creating safe spaces (especially studio settings) for women to collaborate and grow together. Most recently I became a mother and chose to play trumpet for the entire Renaissance Tour fully pregnant. Based in Los Angeles, Makena expresses her life experience through an ever - evolving musical channel of honest lyrics, infectious hooks, and a fusion of various genres. Drawing influences from Taylor Swift, Fletcher and Olivia O’Brien, Makena brings a candid and vulnerable edge to pop. The songwriter/artist grew up in Denver, CO and began performing at the age of 4 and started writing music shortly after. As a fan of many genres, Makena has experimented with multiple styles over the years and continues to expand her horizons. As an umbrella nonprofit, we also provide resources and support for female-focused initiatives that are working to create meaningful change - both through our own programs, as well as external efforts around the world.
Programs include an all-female songwriting series, industry database of women creators and mentorship program, with more to come. Our initiatives serve women in the industry today while fostering the development of future generations.

Music’s all-female, global songwriting series to increase the number of women creators. With support from industrywide allies, SITM connects artists with songwriters and studio professionals for writing sessions around the world. Our partner organizations also work to amplify resulting songs.
The SITM Mentorship Program is designed to inspire and develop the next generation of women in music. The program empowers young women in the music industry; by bolstering their confidence and having them learn from women actively involved and employed within the industry, SITM’s mentees will not only feel secure in joining the music industry but also working toward leadership roles. Participants in the Mentorship Program will gain valuable, firsthand insight into all areas of the industry, including but not limited to touring, producing and songwriting.
