About Shruthi Rajasekar

I'm an Indian-American composer and vocalist, born-and-bred Minnesotan, partial product of New Jersey (Princeton University) and current proud resident of the UK. As the daughter of all-star Indian veena player Nirmala Rajasekar, I was fortunate to be raised on fantastic music and by an incredibly strong woman. I studied Indian classical vocal music, Western classical piano and operatic voice-- all along the journey, I wrote songs everyday. Now, I write music that transverses cultural identity and musical "genres". In my quest to keep growing, I occupy myself with this balance: aiming to blur boundaries in order to bring us closer together while upholding my belief in the value of truth in representation and voice. I am constantly learning, and I hope that my music exposes and educates, too. Aside from Traditional Concert Composing, I enjoy scoring films, producing in the studio, making electronic jams, vocal accompanying, and songwriting. If it involves sound, I'm in. Thanks for visiting, and please reach out; I love hearing about new projects!

Shruthi's Experience

I’m a composer (concert music, film & theatre, songwriting) and vocalist (Western classical, Indian classical, improvisatory, experimental). I’m passionate about writing music because I love the innate possibility for collaboration. What I really enjoy is working with performers to bring out the full creative potential of each project.
