About Christina Teleaer

Christina Teleaer, formerly known as RYAT, is a Music Producer, Multi-instrumentalist and Singer, based out of Los Angeles, CA. Christina composes and produces music for avant pop, film, dance, and immersive interdisciplinary performance. She is most known for being one of the first women to tour and perform live looping in Ableton live, combing live instrumentation with electronics starting back in 2006. Christina is also known for her vocal processing styles and improvisational abilities. Her music was coined as "beat couture" (POTHOLES blog) and "LA's Bjork," according to SPIN MAGAZINE while working under the moniker, RYAT. Christina is part of the Grammy Recording Academy, as a member for the producers wing and has a Creative Production Agency called Moksa Agency. She also teaches music production online, part time at Berklee College of Music and has been on panels for Women In Music, Beats By Girls, and at Multiple Universities in her expertise. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: HISTORY - In 2006, Christina, formed a live improvisational solo project call RYAT, using Ableton Live. She spent years in her bedroom learning music software and production, playing small shows in the tri-state area. She was one of the first women to use Ableton Live and tour with the innovative program starting in 2006. After years of building RYAT on the east coast sectors and in parts of Europe, in 2011, she signed the project, under the infamous Brainfeeder / Ninja Tune labels, moved to Los Angeles and presented a fusion beat compositional album in 2012. Known for her improvisational skills, she would often be seen guest appearing and collaborating with top jazz musicians and choreographers. Some artists, she has worked with includes, Taylor McFerrin, Mark Guiliana, MAST, King Britt, Hagar Ben Ari, Tim Lefebvre, Calvin Weston, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Terrace Martin, and choreographers, Jasmine Hearne and Kate Watson-Wallace.  In 2012, her performance career led her to sharing musical stages with artists like Thom Yorke, Questlove, Giles Peterson and Amon Tobin, and she toured extensively across the world, performing in sectors such as fashion week in Tokyo to Coachella.  Being in LA, naturally opened up opportunity for film/tv scoring, where she was featured with a live Orchestra, presented by the prestigious Echo Society, a collective top composers in Los Angeles. This launched opportunities for writing for TV and Film. Her film collaboration for Tasting the Moon, a documentary about women graffiti artist in Afghanistan, won Best Music Video at the Los Angeles International Underground Film Festival and Best Short at the 10th Annual Indie Fest USA International Film Festival. For this score, she sampled traditional Afghani instrumentation and infused hip hop and orchestral compositional elements. In 2014, she started building ALTMODE, a future interactive technology feminist focused dance piece, combining, multi-media, music and dance, which was a collaboration with Kate Watson-Wallace. ALTMODE debuted in Central Park in August, 2015. After debuting ALTMODE, which was intended to tour the festival market in Europe in the spring, she discovered she was pregnant and decided to take time off of touring. During that time, she started focusing on installation work, debuting the first round of an audio/visual interactive piece for Columbia College, in support of their Interdisciplinary Department and in collaboration with students there. In late 2016, she moved back to LA and took on a new position as a professor, teaching music producing and songwriting production for Berklee College of Music. In 2020, Christina and some friends, created a new Creative Production Agency called Moksa and focused on writing a memoir and working on music and concepts for her new music project.
