About Aeron Premo

The concept of movement holds a permanent place in the life and music of Rose Corps (born Aeron Premo). Both the movement of the body through a lifelong study of dance as well as the movement of a globally transient childhood serve as the cornerstones for a solid future in music. Since releasing her debut single “Fantasies” in 2019, Premo has worked to combine her “sparkling vocals” laden with R&B-influenced runs with her aesthetic embrace of “the neon sounds of the 80s.” She is also known for her sharp musical selections as a DJ, harkening back to the days when she wanted to “kidnap the 80s-stacked record collections of my dance teachers as much as I wanted to learn to dance;” her influences draw on an acute knowledge of diverse sounds from disco to boogie funk. Her sets are grounded in history but look to the future, showcasing her unique ability to create an atmosphere that brings people together on the dancefloor. Premo is also the founder of Break Every Rule, which seeks to provide music industry opportunities and motivation for female artists aged 30 and over. As someone who once felt insecure about starting in the industry at a later age than most, she is passionate about being able to help others achieve their musical ambitions and not letting these artists be shut out of opportunities due to their age. Her most recent single “Not Just an Angel” is her proclamation to staying true to who she is as an artist, despite what others wanted her to do. “I have always been attracted to bold, soulful and authoritative singing voices because I believed whenever these artists performed or spoke, they gave off the aura that not only were they strong artists and singers, but strong human beings that spoke their mind and didn’t care about what others thought of them.” Vocalists such as Kimbra, Teena Marie, Kate Bush, Jill Scott, and James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers inspired Premo to find the confidence to sing in the powerful and soulful way that she desired. Premo’s unique exposure to music was informed by her moves around the globe with her military family. Her family’s move to Darmstadt, Germany when she was a young teenager was incredibly influential in developing her musical tastes. “I heard Simple Minds songs that were better than ‘Don’t You Forget About Me.’ I heard OMD songs that were better than ‘If You Leave.’ Britpop, Daft Punk, and so much more — I discovered it in Europe.” That move cemented Premo’s desire to participate in the music industry in some way. She just didn’t know yet that it would be as an artist. Years of dance training has proved to be an asset for Premo — it helped her develop an innate sense of timing and feel for rhythm. Combining that internal beat with the soul, jazz and classic pop music she heard growing up, and her own discoveries of electronic and alternative music, it is this versatility that has proven to be her bread and butter as an artist and DJ. She has played some of the top venues in her home city of Washington, DC, opening for artists such as Roosevelt, Onra, Devin Morrison, GMGN, Melvo Baptiste, and Mighty Mouse. She has also contributed guest mixes to electronic music blogs such as Vehlinggo and radio programs such as WERA 96.7FM’s Studio 96, and has been playlisted on Spotify by record labels such as This Could Go Boom! and radio stations such as The Face Brooklyn. As her recording alias suggests, a corps is defined as “a body, a unit, a squad. Different parts coming together to work as a unique and unified whole.” Premo sees herself as a one-woman corps that is determined to be the principal dancer on stage. “I aspire to show listeners that atmospheric synth lines, funky, danceable rhythms, and soulful, belting vocals can be a potent combination.” Following positive reception for “Not Just an Angel,” Premo has gotten to work on writing and self-producing her debut EP, tentatively titled Emerald City. Also in the works is a double A-side single, with one of the songs being a cover of Dokken’s 80s hair metal ballad “Alone Again.” This single will also include a song written in memory of her late cousin, musician Tommy Grover, with a portion of the proceeds going to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. “I have a lot of hope and ambitions for my career. I want to reach as many people as I can, and not just in my home city. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I will work hard to accomplish all of the goals I have set for myself. When listening to my music, I hope people can gain an appreciation of movement and of life in general, both the ups and the downs.” praise: “Big things are in store for Rose Corps…” — Blisspop “Embracing the neon sounds of the 80s while giving it a modern DJ twist, her new single pleases both the vintage lovers as the dance crowd. Generously [laden] with 80s disco vibes and pop pizzazz, it’s the vibrant rhythm and her ingenious use of synths to inject both [eras] that makes this jam sound irresistible. Add her sparkling vocals into the mix and you get a phenomenal, retro-dipped groove”. —Jansen’s Jamz “…what makes this track sparkle is the stand-out vocal performance that sheds any of the lazy coolness that’s become popular in modern vocal delivery in favor of earnest, heartfelt bright vocals that instill an urgency more easily equated to early Madonna”. — This Could Go Boom!
