About Raquel Caldwell

At a young age, Raquel Caldwell fell in love with the beat. From James Brown to Metallica. From show tunes to the Jigglypuff song. She began taking professional drum lessons at the age of 6. Born in St. Louis and the daughter of two musicians, she came by music honestly. She began singing background vocals on nationally released studio recordings at the age of 5, performed on stage with her great aunt Fontella Bass, and sang at the Palace Theatre on Broadway with Vanessa Williams at the age of 10. She earned multiple music honors in school. She was the youngest alto in her junior high school’s history to be selected for the Missouri Youth Honor Choir. In high school she won the “Louis Armstrong Jazz Award” as a bassist. Raquel is a dual recipient of the “President’s Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence,” which led to her receiving a full-ride scholarship to Georgetown University, where she graduated with honors in economics and music. While in college, Raquel worked as an Administrative Services Manager and gained live performance management experience, which taught her about publication, promotion, and marketing for the performing arts. She was a Grammy U Ambassador for Georgetown University and she produced multiple shows for Sirius XM’s classical stations as an intern, both of which taught her the service of music to society. She spent a semester abroad studying economics and music at the University of Edinburgh where she learned more about the European perspective on music. She was hungry to perform. For her senior music recital, she selected, transcribed, promoted, and performed diverse pieces from Frederic Chopin, Joni Mitchell, and Scott Joplin for her college and family community, her first step into being an artist. After being promoted to Vice-President of AlsamadMusicGroup, she decided she wanted to do projects of her own: a jazz project and a pop album, which gave her a chance to compose. Since graduating from college, Raquel has been given the chance to focus on her piano, guitar, bass, and drumming skills. She also gained more stage experience when she performed with Vanessa Williams and the Cincinnati Pops in 2016 as a background singer. Raquel is a tea-drinker and free-thinker. To quote her song, “I will prove myself to be a noble breed of those who preceded me.”

Raquel's Experience

At my alma mater Georgetown University, I was a house manager for multiple theater, music, and dance performances for four years. I managed ticket sales, public relations, promotion, and talent management during this occupation. For the last three years, I’ve been writing, performing, producing, singing, and playing on my first three major albums that cover various genres: alternative rock, blues, folk, funk, jazz, standards, latin, pop, R&B, and soul. These projects are following my debut jazz EP, which was released June 2018. I have also sang background vocals for the singer and actress Vanessa Williams on multiple performances.
