Joyce's Experience

I am a performing singer-songwriter based in Tucson Arizona. I mostly play local shows at this time, but I have toured in the past when I was in a music duo. I released my debut solo album, titled Every Road We Take, this past summer 2018. Currently the album is being played on of folk radio programs throughout the United States and internationally. I co-produced my album and I did all of the vocal arrangements. No auto-tune was used on this album!! I am very proud of the final product, and I learned a lot about how to be a strong and confident woman in the recording studio, which is still a place that is dominated by male engineers and producers. I’m available as a studio musician to sings harmonies and backing vocals on other people’s projects. I have a great year for harmonies and excellent pitch, so I’m able to record quickly while still producing excellent results. My style of music is contemporary folk/Americana/indie acoustic singer-songwriter, although I incorporate various genres into my songwriting and concerts. I have a special love for the singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s, especially amazing women like Carole King and Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks. In June of 2018 I started a monthly Listening Room concert series, because there were no small Listening Room settings in Tucson but mainly bars and restaurants at which to play music. Each month I share the stage with a different guest artist, which gives me beautiful opportunities to collaborate with musicians who I respect deeply. Because I talk about a lack of diversity and a lot of music festivals and venues, I am committed to walking my talk and making sure that my lineup is diverse and eclectic! I never intended to be it concert producer and promoter, but in fulfilling my own need for a Listening Room space, I have become both of those things. However, it is a collaborative process each month with whomever I’m sharing that particular concert. I believe that, as songwriters and performers, we have a special duty to reflect the world around us and to inspire and uplift people while encouraging them to think about things going on in our beautiful miraculous troubled diverse world. To me, that is the difference between being simply an entertainer vs. being a true artist!
