About Fiona McMurrey

I am a peripatetic poet, an artist in every capacity I compose lyrics to accompany my sentiments and musings delivered in my soft soprano. Music is the sublimating saviour of an absurd existence; poetry is its prose professing prophet sermonizing us in a symphonic scripture of every emotion we must embellish in a form beyond ourselves. I am currently based in Paris, a city sculpted upon a palimpsest of passionate histories, it wears the dichotomous palette of the absurd in conjunction with the artistic, slipping between the epochs resigned to perpetual change though much remains the same as is the structure of music, the rhythm of time. These are the musings of a musician in Paris expressed through multifarious modalities in an endeavour to reconcile with the absurd paradox, an irrevocable tenet of being. For, in the words of Albert Camus, "If we understood the enigmas of life, we would have no need for art." ( Stylistically I have a certain predilection for 60s & 70s rock, Tori Amos, Lenny Kravitz, New Order, and an eclectic exterior variety of genres ranging from grunge to Gregorian, classical to country, all music has a scene in the diegesis of my life. )

Fiona's Experience

As an undergraduate freshman at the American University of Paris I am currently involved in an internship with WRP radio and AUP radio for which I serve as the producer and host a segment entitled “Existentially Inclined.” This internship has developed my technical skills in Adobe audition and the fundamentals of constructing and maintaining a radio station. My vocal skills are acquired from 4 years of classical operatic training, lifelong theatrical participation, seven years of piano instruction, and a childhood suspended on the fretboard of a mandolin in a ragtag bluegrass band.
