About Elena Conn
Elena Conn is an American drummer, percussionist, composer, and educator best known for her extreme versatility. Her preparation has included years of training in the jazz department at Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Billy Hart (Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock) and Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon), a two week trip to Cuba to study with Yissy Garcia and Juan Carlos Rojas “El Jefe”, private study with Kim Thompson (Beyonce), and hundreds of gigs spanning both coasts of America. Performing since the age of 14, she’s as at home on a 12-piece kit in front of a sold out Terminal 5 crowd as she is on a cajon at an intimate SoFar Sounds show. Some of her current projects utilize her thoroughly precise drumming in pop music with Maria Lynn and Elijah Fox and her jazz training with her all-femme quartet, among many more projects. Her collaborators have noted her unique voice on her instrument coming from her ability to seamlessly blend all of her areas of expertise into a cohesive sound, as well her expert capacity to dive into any individual one of them authentically and powerfully at a moment’s notice. She is based in New York City and Connecticut where she performs and teaches privately, in addition to her work as a booking agent and manager.
