About CICI Zhu

I grew up between two worlds: my family’s deep ties to Chinese traditional music and the years I spent soaking up producing electronic music. I started playing piano and guzheng (Chinese harp) from a very young age; wrote my first song at the age of 9; at the age of 14, I started producing my own songs on Korg Triton; and at the age of 18, I went on to study music production, where I graduated with First-class honors degree.

After university, I joined many musical projects, I was one of the original members in an electronic group ‘The Tenorions’, where we toured with Yamaha Europe, performed on the Paul O Grady Show; Frankfurt Musikmesse; and many radio stations across Europe. Later on, Ii released a single and music video ‘Shaolin Princess’ with a London based girl band ‘The Soundelight’. In 2009, I crafted my debut EP ‘Addicted To It’, demonstrated my skill as a well-rounded artist, where I wrote, sang, produced, mixed and mastered all of my tracks, and released music video ‘Addicted To It’ with Swedish film director Maria Akesson.

A year later I finished my Chinese album ‘No More’, and started traveling to China, where I became a regular guest at Beijing and Shanghai TV stations, I was also featured on a 20 minutes long episode on ‘Chinese World’ on CCTV4, talking about my life as an independent artist living in London. In addition to my TV appearances, I performed at numerous music events and festivals in the UK and China, I also performed at the Water Cube Stadium where the Beijing Olympic was held.

I got signed to Towing record label in 2013, an independent label under Universal China, where I was a singer, songwriter and music producer. During my time in Shanghai, I also founded an educational organization called ‘Music Education 4.0’, the objective of the organization is to make electronic music accessible to every kid in China.
