About Chiara Oldano

Hello! My name is Chiara Oldano, I am a 22 year-old soul/pop singer and songwriter based in London. I am an independent artist and I write all of my original material including melody, lyrics and chords. Having been involved in music for the majority of my life, I pursued a multitude of professional experiences growing up singing in a professional choir, named “Piccoli Cantori di Torino” where I was placed as a mezzo soprano by the director and the vocal coach from the Scala di Milano. There, I developed my musical ear and sight reading whilst working on my vocal range and composing my first songs with the piano. Despite not studying music in school, I attended the conservatoire in Nice, France, for opera singing and then spent a further fifteen years developing my technique in other styles including soul and gospel. Following these different musical experiences, I developed a strong interest in becoming an artist, and more specifically, a singer and songwriter. I have just released my debut EP as a staggered release which started in March 2019. The project consists of four songs coherent with a central theme; the power of being your true self, by evoking self-confidence and inner optimism about owning our role in life. My inspiration and drive came from my experience in the academic system, where I found creative subjects to be undervalued. As such, my four song EP is a musical take on my own personal revolution against this experience. Beyond this, I see this EP as a metaphor for the journey we all experience as children, an adventure filled with discovery, freedom and curiosity where achievements seem limitless. I have written lyrics, melody and chords for each song and have been present in the production process every step of the way with a very clear direction in mind, both the recording and the video making. I have been strongly influenced by artists such as Céline Dion for her impeccable technique, Freddie Mercury for his stage presence and memorable performances as well as his iconic impact in the world of music, Aretha Franklin for her unique soulful tone, Mariah Carey for her outstanding vocal range and Matt Corby and Jessie Ware for the beautiful lyrics and melodies. These brilliant artists inspired me throughout my childhood and aspired me to write anthemic choruses and inspirational lyrics for my own songs. Furthermore, I attended a summer programme at Berklee College of Music in Boston where I had the opportunity to perform with a Motown Ensemble with five other singers, there I developed a soulful sound and improved my musical ear for harmonies. Although I was encouraged to study more academic subjects, I started performing around London with my guitarist at the age of 16, venues included The Lexington, The Spice of Life, The Crazy Coqs, The George IV, The Paradise by Way of Kensal Green and others, these gigs gave me the chance to improve my performance skills and learn how to control the fear of being in front of an audience. During my time at university, I formed the band Chiara and The Vu, we went on to perform at festivals alongside artists including Cascada, Wheatus and Example. I have also recently been invited to perform and headline the O2 Islington Academy in London as a solo artist whilst my new single “Nothing to Hide” has recently been played on BBC introducing radio.
