About Allison Tartalia

Allison Tartalia is a songwriter, composer and producer, who releases music under the name Allison's Invention. A “singer with a sultry voice” (New York Times), Tartalia writes unconventional, eclectic songs, performed on piano, ukulele and the occasional guitar or kalimba. “She’s translated her classical piano training into a cohesive style that incorporates chamber pop, folk, pop and jazz, and transcends the typical constraints of the singer/songwriter classification” (Cincinnati City Beat). Her musical adventurousness and “honest, raw lyrics” (The Deli Magazine) have captivated audiences at New York venues like The Living Room and Joe's Pub, and at clubs and festivals around the United States. She has shared a stage with such notable artists as Petra Haden, Rachael Sage and Fred Armisen. Her latest recording, Sweet and Vicious, is a 6-song EP of lush, melodramatic pop, and includes the single "Ran" which was featured on Lifetime's Dance Moms. In addition to her solo work, Allison Tartalia composes music for theater, tv and film and is a producer/arranger for both herself and other artists. Most recently, she scored the 2015 feature-length romantic comedy, Get Happy, which was an official selection at the Montreal Film Festival, won Best Romantic Comedy at the Manhattan Film Festival, and is now available through FlixPremiere. In 2010, Tartaglia received an Emmy nomination and a Telly Award in recognition of the music she composed for the the documentary 5,000 Miles From Home, which aired on PBS. Allison has also composed and arranged two original full-length musicals, 1918: A House Divided and Birds on Fire (book and lyrics by Barbara Kahn), both produced by New York City’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Theater for the New City. Allison's Experience

As a composer, I’ve worked across numerous genres, including pop, alternative, theater music and film scoring. I’ve released two records, Ready (under the name Allison Tartalia) and Sweet and Vicious (under the name Allison’s Invention) of my singer-songwriter material, and toured regionally in support of those projects. Films I’ve scored include 5,000 Miles from Home, for which I was nominated for a Midwest chapter Emmy, and the feature-length romantic comedy Get Happy. By necessity, film-scoring led me to start learning production, and now production has become a passion in its own right. For the past couple of years, I’ve focused primarily on writing for sync, often co-writing and writing for other artists. As I’ve pursued this, I’ve continued to produce my work, and more recently, have been hired to produce for other artists. I’m currently producing an organic, folk record for one artist and a dreamy electro-pop project for another. As someone who genuinely enjoys a wide variety of musical styles, I find that writing for others and producing gives me the opportunity to explore all the musical ideas that excite me, and I enjoy learning and stretch with each new project.
